Bono with Chris Martin and Brandon Flowers

The Killers think that Coldplay will always be more popular than them. Frontman Brandon Flowers admits the British band is leagues ahead of his own in terms of becoming the next U2 and has resigned himself to the fact that he will never achieve the same level of popularity.

"We're a few steps behind Coldplay. There's no catching them now. I never felt we were chasing them and I'm not deflated, but they've just taken that," Killers frontman Brandon Flowers said. The 31-year-old singer is highly critical of the current rock scene, however, and said that in the eighteen months the "Mr. Brightside" hitmakers went on hiatus, the state of guitar bands got even worse and they all need to "get over" themselves and write songs that can compete with his own.

KeshaKesha "never wanted" to sing "Die Young." The 25-year-old singer's latest single has been pulled from radio stations following the tragic massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Conneticut, and the blonde star says she understands why it has been deemed inappropriate because she herself was never happy with the lyrical content of the track.

In a Tweet which has now been deleted, she wrote, "I understand. I had my very own issue with 'die young' for this reason. I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO. (sic)"

The "Tik Tok" hitmaker went on to express her sympathy for the 26 victims of the shooting, which happened over a week ago, and appealed to fans to donate to a charity fund set up by 'Apologize' hitmakers OneRepublic. "Its beyond words what has happened. Help families affected by the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary by donating here: indiegogo.com/OneRepublicForSandyHook I'm so so so sorry for anyone who has been effected by this tragedy.and I understand why my song is now inappropriate. words cannot express.(sic)" she wrote.

One DirectionOne Direction would never consider solo careers. The "Little Things" group - Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik - are a solid unit and none of them could imagine a time when they'd break away and try to forge their own career.

"I wouldn't do it. We're together now, and that's it," Niall told Barbara Walters. Zayn agreed, adding, "It's not even a question." Louis Tomlinson explained further, saying, "We're just having an absolutely great time. It'd be wrong to look at it and be like, 'When is this gonna end?'"

Barbara also asked the band about an infamous incident when they were mobbed by eager female fans in Sweden who pressed their breasts against their car. Describing the situation, Louis said, "To the point where there was actually nipple marks all over the window. What dreams are made of."

Britney SpearsBritney Spears has begun work on hew eighth studio album.

The "Gimme More" hitmaker is teaming up with writer Elijah Blake - who has previously worked with stars including Rihanna and Usher - for the follow up to 2011's Femme Fatale and the songwriter thinks fans will be "surprised" by the tracks.

"I think her fans will be surprised by it. I would say it's definitely the 'unexpected' Britney in so many ways, in that she's playing with new textures and stomping on new grounds and genres," Elijah said. "I've definitely had the pleasure of starting on something I think is going to be big with her," he also wrote on Twitter.

No further information about the record has been released, but Britney, 31, was previously spotted in a recording studio with Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins. Blackout producer Danja has also previously confirmed he would work with her again.

Britney SpearsBritney Spears was the top earning woman in music this year.

The X Factor judge - who neither released a new album or went on tour in 2012 - raked in an estimated $58 million in just 12 months, according to Forbes magazine.

Most of the 30-year-old popstar's profits - which are just slightly less than the $64 million she earned in 2010 - came from her comeback Femme Fatale tour that grossed $68.7 million worldwide, followed by her Femme Fatale album, in addition to her popular fragrance line with Elizabeth Arden and her endorsement deals.

Music attorney Lori Landew, who helped Britney negotiate her first record deal as a teenager, attempted to explain her huge success despite a few rough years, saying, "Britney has an electricity that connects with audiences on screen and off, and it is that intangible quality that always seems to leave her fans, old and new, breathless."

Paul McCartney with Nirvana's Dave Grohl

Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi performed at the 12.12.12 concert in New York last night. The Beatles guitarist fronted a Nirvana reunion as he brought surviving members, drummer Dave Grohl, bassist Krist Novoselic and touring guitarist Pat Smear - who were with singer Kurt Cobain until his suicide in 1994 - on stage halfway through his set at Madison Square Garden.

Before introducing the group at the Concert for Sandy Relief - which raised money for people in the Caribbean and US who were struck by Hurricane Sandy in October - he said, "The penny finally dropped that I was in the middle of a Nirvana reunion."

Meg WhiteJack White says Meg White was "uninterested" throughout The White Stripes career.

The "Hotel Yorba" duo found fame in 2001 - a year after divorcing as a couple - becoming one of the biggest rock bands of the last decade, before splitting in 2011, but Jack claims drummer Meg never showed the same level of enthusiasm as himself about the band.

"In The White Stripes it was impossible to share the good moments with Meg because she was very uninterested. If something nice happened, it wasn't like we would hug or have a drink. That wasn't what went on. We would record a White Stripes song in the studio and it would be me, Meg and an engineer. So we would finish a mix of a song and I'd say, 'Wow! That's pretty good!' I'd look around and Meg would just be sitting there, and the engineer would just be sitting there. So it'd be sorta like, 'OK... Let's just move on to the next one.' It was just me by myself. But it was the best thing for me. It taught me a lot about trusting my gut."

The Spice GirlsThe Spice Girls are better friends now than they've "ever been."

Mel C insists her bandmates Mel B, Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton - who reunited earlier this year to perform at the Olympic Games closing ceremony - are closer than ever before thanks to them becoming "more chilled out" after having kids:

"We're better friends now than we've ever been. We've all grown up, become mums and are more chilled out. We're really grateful for each other because if it weren't for all five of us then we wouldn't have the great lives we have now."

The 38-year-old singer admits it has been a "great year" for the "Wannabe" hitmakers after they got back together for their London 2012 performance, but the brunette star isn't sure whether the girl group will ever play together again. "Yes, and this has been such a great year for us because of our performance at the Olympic closing ceremony. We were reminiscing so much over the old times. I think all of the girls are happy with the direction their careers have taken. I don't know whether we would perform together again," she said when asked about the girls.

The LumineersThe Lumineers are humbled by their two Grammy nominations. The "Ho Hey" group received a nod for Best New Artist and their self titled debut was named in the Best Americana Album category when the awards shortlist was announced on Wednesday, and they are over the moon to be recognized after all their hard work.

"We're humbled by all of this. And if these nominations bring more people to our music, and to this record, then we're a damn lucky band," said guitarist and singer Wesley Schultz.

The group - completed by Jeremiah Fraites and Neyla Pekarek - have previously talked of their eclectic set of influences, claiming their sound is a mix of everything from classical composer Beethoven to notoriously bad mouthed 80s rockers Guns N' Roses. Drummer Jeremiah told BANG Showbiz, "The first thing I got into was Beethoven. I remember getting one of those CDs that was all piano stuff by Beethoven and that really influenced me a lot, I love classical music. Then the next band I got into was Guns N' Roses. I don't really know how that transition took place, but I think I really grew up listening to lots of different types of genres. I love cinematic music and anything strange and weird. Wesley and I write all the music and he grew up on stuff that his father liked such as Talking Heads and Bruce Springsteen. I think there's a blend we bring to the table, where we don't have the same exact influences, but write well together."
